Project Description: Dr. Lopez is currently conducting research on Latina girls and sports. Participation in sports has been linked to positive educational outcomes, especially for girls. Despite these benefits, not all girls play sports at equal rates. Latina girls continue to be underrepresented in school sports. Yet, some Latina girls are participating in organized school sports. This study explores why this is the case from an intersectional and socioecological perspective. Interviews are currently being conducted with current and former Latina high school athletes as well as coaches.
